Our commitment at TUI BLUE – to people, animals and the environment

Our planet’s resources are limited. At TUI BLUE, we want to do our bit to conserve them – through a concrete commitment to protecting the natural environment and to the wellbeing of people and animals in and around our hotels.

As part of the TUI Group, we follow the TUI Sustainability Agenda – a framework of specific targets and measures that also applies to TUI BLUE. We are convinced that tourism can make a positive contribution to destinations and communities, whilst at the same time being mindful of our responsibility towards the environment and society.

Our key priorities for TUI BLUE Hotels

  • Buying locally: We prioritise local sourcing to strengthen our ties with local suppliers and contribute to the economic development of the local community.
  • Circular economy: We are working to redesign products, services and processes in our hotels with a circular approach – with a clear focus on reducing food waste and avoiding plastic.
  • Reducing emissions: We pursue science-based emission reduction targets aligned with the Paris Agreement.
  • Empowering guests: We inform our guests and support them in making choices during their stay that take people and the environment into account.
  • Renewable energy and low-emission transport: We are increasingly relying on renewable energy in our hotels and are developing low-emission transport options in our destinations.
  • Promoting certification: We work with recognised certification bodies to improve social and environmental standards, and implement high standards for our own new hotel builds and refurbishments.
  • Resource-efficient technologies and data-driven approaches: We are working to reduce the environmental impact of our IT platforms, using data to improve decision-making and transparency, and deploying technology in a targeted manner to drive operational improvements.
  • Skills development initiative: Through the TUI Sustainability Academy, we are helping to bridge the skills gap on environmental and social issues within the tourism industry.

Measures in our TUI BLUE hotels

TUI BLUE Sylt

We are supporting electric mobility on Sylt and expanding the island’s charging infrastructure. With 18 new charging points across nine charging stations, which can be accessed via the TUI eCharge app, we are providing a convenient charging option for our guests. Our guests benefit from attractive rates, whilst the charging points are also open to the public – contributing to lower-emission mobility on Sylt.

We are expanding the charging infrastructure on Sylt, thereby supporting electric mobility on the island. To this end, we have installed 18 charging points across nine charging stations, which can be conveniently used via the TUI eCharge app – a single app for all charging points.

Our guests at TUI BLUE Sylt benefit from exclusive rates, whilst the charging points are also available to the general public. With this project, we are supporting Sylt’s e-mobility strategy and making an important contribution to lower-emission mobility in the region.

TUI BLUE Palm Garden

At TUI BLUE Palm Garden, we use KITRO cameras to monitor and specifically reduce food waste – with the aim of cutting it by up to 60 per cent. In addition, we have installed 60 solar panels for water heating to reduce the hotel’s energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.

At TUI BLUE Palm Garden, we are trialling the use of KITRO cameras to weigh, monitor and record food waste. KITRO stands for ‘Kitchen’ and ‘Hero’ and is an AI-powered solution designed to reduce food waste in restaurants, hotels and canteens by up to 60 per cent.

The KITRO bins are fitted with precision scales and cameras. Every time food waste is disposed of, the camera automatically takes a photo. This data is then analysed using software to provide information on the quantity and type of food waste – without the need for manual data entry by staff. The results are clearly displayed on a dashboard.

In addition, the TUI BLUE Palm Garden has installed 60 solar panels to heat the hotel’s water and reduce its CO₂ emissions.

TUI BLUE Sarigerme Park

The TUI BLUE Sarigerme Park hotel in Türkiye reuses leftover bottled water to water its gardens and maintains an olive and lemon grove, the harvest from which is used to produce its own olive oil.

The hotel is implementing specific measures to protect the natural environment: collected bottled water from the guest rooms and public areas is used to water the garden. The hotel garden is currently home to 224 mature olive trees and 407 young olive saplings, as well as three mature lemon trees and 38 newly planted lemon saplings. In 2022, this yielded 793 litres of olive oil – from a total of 5,407 kg of olives.

Another project is the insect hotel, built from a dead palm tree trunk – an upcycling project made from recycled and locally available materials. It provides a home for insects such as wild bees, ladybirds and lacewings. The project supports local biodiversity and helps to reduce the use of chemical pesticides.

TUI BLUE Seno

TUI BLUE Seno is committed to protecting local ecosystems and preserving biodiversity, is working to reduce its CO₂ emissions, practises resource-efficient waste management and supports the local community.

To help preserve biodiversity in the region, TUI BLUE Seno protects plants , animals and ecosystems on its premises.

The hotel records, monitors and reports its CO₂ emissions with the aim of continuously reducing them. Kitchen and garden waste is turned into compost, and when selecting pesticides and fertilisers for the garden, the hotel prioritises products with a lower environmental impact.

In the ‘Oasis Pool’, the hotel does not use chlorine, relying instead on a salt chlorine generator.

When purchasing new equipment, water and energy efficiency are prioritised. Thermal imaging camera inspections are carried out once a year to identify and reduce heat loss. In addition, weekly site clean-ups and regular public beach clean-ups take place.

Social Commitment

Where the hotel is able to source supplies independently, 37 per cent of goods and services already come from local suppliers.

TUI BLUE Seno collaborates with vocational schools and offers work placements on fixed terms.

Hotel equipment no longer required, such as mattresses and box-spring beds, is donated to those in need via the district office. Local animal shelters also receive equipment and materials that are no longer needed by the hotel.

Charging points for electric vehicles

Some of our hotels have recently installed new charging points at charging stations for electric vehicles, which can be accessed via the TUI eCharge app. Guests at TUI BLUE Sylt, TUI BLUE Montafon and TUI BLUE Schladming benefit from exclusive rates, whilst the charging points are also available to the general public – thereby helping to promote electric mobility.
