This experience will be one of the absolute highlights of your holiday at the TUI BLUE Schladming, with breathtaking views of the breathtaking Dachstein glacier! We visited the place for you and have put together a perfect half-day tour at an altitude of 2,700 metres:
Right at the beginning, you'll get giddy when you see the glass-enclosed lift to the Dachstein - the Panoramic Gondola. Moving at almost 50 km/h, it covers the 1,000 metres to the mountain in only 6 minutes. If you dare, you can ride on the open-air balcony on top of the gondola - it's like nothing you've every seen!
Once you arrive, you can go to the Skywalk, a unique viewing platform above a 250-metre, vertically sloping rock face. Here, you have a phenomenal view of the Hohen Tauern mountain range all the way to Slovenia and the Czech Republic. At 2,700 metres above sea level, the Skywalk is even higher than the observation decks at Niagara Falls or Iguazú Falls!
After this first adventure, we recommend a break and a refreshments in the Dachstein-Glacier Restaurant. Our tip: arrive early in the morning and enjoy a sunrise breakfast here. (Reservation required.)
After that, you're all set for the Dachstein suspension bridge leading to the "Stairway to Nowhere". For some, the 100-metre walk with an underlying drop of 400 metres is a small test of courage. But a total of 63 tonnes of steel construction guarantees absolute safety, even in high winds.
Up next, the "Stairway to Nowhere" forms the exciting finale. 14 narrow steps lead down to a glass platform at a dizzying height, which can accommodate up to 4 people. Enjoy unique views over the mountains yet again and pause for a few astonishing seconds.
Now take a deep breath and "cool down." What could be better at this point that a visit to the nearby Ice Palace? You'll be taken to a mystical world full of ice and snow inside the glacier. 6 metres under the ice, you can admire carved figures, ice columns, and the Crystal Cathedral on a trip through Styria. In only 3 minutes of walking, you can be back on the Dachstein glacier cable car, which will take you safely and securely back into the valley.
You can reach the valley station of the Dachstein Panoramic Gondola in approximately 30 minutes driving from the TUI BLUE Schladming, or alternatively you can use the public shuttle bus from Schladming. With the Schladming-Dachstein Summer Card, a ride up and down the mountain is free if done within 7 days.
We wish you much fun and "gute nerve "!
